Annual meeting 2025

50 participants from different disciplines joined the 32nd annual meeting of the German Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (DGNM), which took place at the Diakonieverein Zehlendorf in Berlin fromFebuary 28 to March 2, 2025.

During the 32nd annual meeting, 21 talks were given in six sessions. These were dedicated to basic and translational science (Basic: morphology and function of the ENS and interaction with the gut microbiome; Translational: motility & IBS, inflammation & pancreas) and clinical science (pathophysiology, diagnostics and treatment of gastrointestinal motor disorders and disorders of the brain gut axis). Presentations were mainly given by youngsters, who reported on their ongoing projects. Clinical updates were given on constipation, functional dyspepsia and psychosomatics in gastroenerology.

A further highlight of the meeting was the presentation from K.M. Schneider, Dresden, the winner of the Research Prize Neurogastroenterology 2024 on Stressing the gut-brain axis.

This year’s Lüderitz Lecture was given by Chloé Melchior, Rouen, France, who gave an insightful and inspiring talk on Need to generate interst in neurogastroenterology for a better management of our patients.

Hiba Mikhael-Moussa and Sophia Gabriela Ritter were awarded with a Martin Wienbeck Travel Grant to attend the ENS meeting in London.

At the general assembly on Saturday evening, members of the society were updated on the activities of the national and international societies. In particular, upcoming courses initiated and/or supported by the DGNM and important timelines were presented, including the ESNM meeting in London and the TANDEM meeting, which will precede the congress. Both meetings were also advertised during the main programme. Furthermore, participants were informed on current and potential future opportunities to join ESNM-driven studies and guideline projects.  After 10 years of intensive and very constructive work as president of the society, Andreas Stengel handed over this poistion and Robert Patejdl was elected as new president, Peter Neckel as vice president of the society. Miriam Stengel was confirmed as treasurer, and Jutta Keller was reelected as German representative for the ESNM Steering Committee.

The next meeting will take place on February 20 – 21, 2026 in Freising.
